Switcheroo |
| What are you afraid of? That’s a question that we often hear and tend to respond to with answers like snakes, spiders, or the dark. While those are valid fears, if we’re honest we’ll admit that fear also targets us on a much deeper level, one that torments the core of who we are and how we live. But have you ever thought about how fear targets us? Basically, fear functions as a con man in our lives, using ruses like a switcheroo, a hustle, a sting, or a heist to fool us into falling for deception that tell us that we’re inadequate, or isolated, or unlovable. But we’re not defenseless against these cons. God’s love provides everything we need to pull the plug on fear’s deceptions and to switch the false ideas of fear back to the truth. Now we’re the ones pulling off the switcheroo as we learn how to break through fear’s con games by trusting God’s love to counter and conquer each one. |
Interrogative :: questions that leave a mark |
| Throughout the gospels, people came to Jesus with questions. But Jesus usually responded in ways that left them asking themselves different questions, deeper questions, about how they should live and what they should do next. Through parables, answers, or even questions in return, Jesus forced these people to think about life and God in a different way. In this series, we come to Scripture with questions people asked Jesus, and we’ll discover in His responses how these questions can inspire us and disturb us in ways that leave a mark in our lives. |
