Smoke

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
And where there’s fire in the Bible, there’s God.
Come with us as we step into God’s presence, God’s power, God’s provision, and God’s priority.
Sit for a moment beside the flame.
Stare into the smoke… …and let your heart be set on fire.

THE HEARTBEAT OF SMOKE
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
And where there’s fire in the Bible, there’s God.
Come with us as we step into God’s presence, God’s power, God’s provision, and God’s priority.
Sit for a moment beside the flame.
Stare into the smoke…
…and let your heart be set on fire.
ABOUT THE ART
One may have a blazing hearth in one's soul and yet no one ever came to sit by it. Passers-by see only a wisp of smoke from the chimney and continue on their way.
-Vincent Van Gogh

Smoke – don’t pass it by.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. (Don’t pass it by.)
Where there’s fire there’s God. (Don’t pass it by.)
Where there’s God there’s restoration. (Don’t pass it by.)

There is growth.
There is rebirth.
There is refreshment.
Don’t pass it by.

SESSION OUTLINE
Session One :: The Presence of God
Exodus 3:1-6
The point: Smoke signals that God’s presence is present tense
Often, we think of God’s presence as something in the past or as a hope for the future. But smoke signals that God’s presence is present tense. In the story of Moses at the burning bush, we learn that when we’re awakened to God’s presence, our response is to revere who God is, repent of what He’s not, and remain where He is.

Session Two :: The Power of God
1 Kings 18:16-40
The point: Smoke signals that God’s power prevails
Power comes from not only force but also knowledge. As Elijah faced off against the prophets of Baal, smoke signaled that God’s power prevailed. So as we seek to let our hearts be set on fire with God’s power, we need to choose that we will follow God and God alone.

Session Three :: The Provision of God
Exodus 13:17-22
The point: Smoke signals that God is providing by guiding
We all want God to provide what we need and what we want. In the story of the pillar of smoke that led the Israelites, we learned that smoke signals that God is providing by guiding.

Session Four :: The Priority of God
Exodus 3:7-12
The point: Smoke signals that God’s invitation comes with expectations
As we return to the story of Moses at the burning bush, we discover that smoke signals that God’s invitation comes with expectations. When we make God a priority in our lives, we learn to share in what God’s priority is, and we begin to make God’s mission our priority as well.
